Ms. Bailey has been a member of the board at Mountain State Centers for Independent Living for several years and is a member of the board's Legislative Committee.
Advocacy is one of the four core services of a center for independent living and participation during legislative sessions is an important part of advocating for people with disabilities. Ms. Bailey is a person with a disability and believes that it is important to stand up for her rights and the rights of others with disabilities, so sitting on the Legislative Committee is a natural fit for her.
Brenda enjoys volunteering, especially teaching poetry and creative writing to people that, like her, have both physical and mental limitations. Brenda is also active in the Mental Health Consumer Association and participates in their annual leadership conference.
Brenda believes it is a privilege to be a board member at Mountain State. Brenda encourages anyone who is living with limitations, their friends, their families and others to become advocates and help end discrimination and stigma for people with disabilities.
Brenda reminds us that volunteering isn't just good for those who are helped but also for the volunteer. It's also a great way to share ones special gifts with others.
