Ceretha Burdiss - Community Resource Advocater, Beckley Office

I am a person with what is known as hidden disabilities. I have asthma, diabetes and arthritis. I have worked with the public for many years in various occupations. I am also a mother and a wife. As a Community Resource Advocate I am constantly seeking new resources for people with disabilities in West Virginia such as support groups and other organizations that will benefit people with disabilities. I enjoy the challenge of finding new ways of helping people in the community.

My job includes leading skills training classes in a group setting or one-on-one in the Beckley office. I am also responsible for promoting our center's programs such as conducting public awareness activities including Kids ADA presentations in local elementary schools, disability sensitivity training, attending junior and high school transition fairs and visiting other agencies that provide services to the disability community.

Another responsibility of a Community Resource Advocate is to provide information and referral for disabilities services to West Virginians who contact our CIL and to the consumers with whom I work. If you are seeking a disability product or service and can not find it in our online resource database, then call or email me.

I also coordinate the SHARE Program in Beckley, a self-help food program and community service activity. As an advocate, I attend the WV Legislature on a regular basis to advocate, educate, monitor and support legislation that affects people with disabilities.

You can reach me in the Beckley office at 304-255-0122 from 8:00 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. Monday through Friday or by email at cburdiss@mtstcil.org.
