Appalachian Center for Independent Living (ACIL) is an advocacy resource center for persons with disabilities and the communities in which they live. ACIL is committed to educating and working with legislators and policymakers to achieve equal access for West Virginians with disabilities.
Appalachian Center for Independent Living's legislative priorities for the 2008 session include:
As a member of the WV Centers for Independent Living, ACIL promotes their agenda supporting legislation that would direct $476,000 in state funds into the Independent Living line item of the WV Division of Rehabilitation Services' budget, bringing it to $500,000, to increase the availability of independent living services to people with disabilities. Visit the IL Funding Fact Sheet.
ACIL will educate legislators about the Employment Attendant Care Program that provides assistance to people with disabilities in the work force. ACIL supports a continuing improvement of $50,000 for the WV Division of Rehabilitation Services' Employment Attendant Care Program. To learn more visit WVDRS Employment Attendant Care Program.
During the 2008 Legislation session, ACIL will monitor and support legislation that removes barriers and empowers people with disabilities to live a lifestyle they choose.
