The West Virginia State Fire Marshal's Office joins the national Coalition for Fire-Safe Cigarettes (CFSC) in their pursuit of state-by-state adoption of fire-safe cigarette model legislation. This legislation was developed to mirror regulations developed by the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control and passed in 1994. The Coalition is calling for manufacturers to immediately produce and market only cigarettes that adhere to an established fire safety performance standard, and is working to see that this standard is required in every state in the country.
The West Virginia State Fire Marshal's Office is coordinating a coalition approach to introduction of this legislation here in West Virginia, seeking letters of support from agencies and other groups mirroring those Coalition members at the national level.
