Community Living Services Program Waiting List - 2009

The combined waiting lists maintained by the WVCILs totaled approximately 278 people waiting for services as of September 30, 2008, the end of the most recent fiscal year.

Of the individuals currently on the waiting list, 44 are at risk of institutionalization. The current wait time is a minimum of two years. West Virginia is not eligible for any additional federal funding for independent living and it is critical the State of West Virginia continue to maintain, and consider increasing, this level of funding.

Independent living services enable West Virginians with disabilities to return to, or remain in, their own homes and communities. These services are critical to West Virginia's compliance with the most integrated setting provision in Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act and upheld by the United States Supreme Court in the Olmstead decision. Independent living services are also a critical component for the implementation of the WV Olmstead Plan.
