Please plan to attend. As mandated by federal law, the WV Statewide Independent Living Council in cooperation with the WV Division of Rehabilitation Services is conducting public meetings across the state to gather information from people with disabilities in the preparation of the new State Plan for Independent Living for 2008-2010.
The State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL) outlines the services/programs that are available to people with disabilities and reflects our state's commitment to provide independent living services to people with disabilities. West Virginia currently receives funding from both the state and federal government to provide independent living services. MTSTCIL receives some of these funds which are used for our Community Living Services Program and our Web site (www.mtstcil.org).
The Community Living Services Program assists individuals with disabilities to function more independently in their homes and communities. The program provides such things as home modifications, vehicle modifications, communication services, assistive technology and durable medical equipment.
Our Web site is the only virtual center for independent living in West Virginia. Our web site provides an opportunity for people with disabilities statewide to participate in such things as online skills training classes and to learn more about our advocacy efforts and activities.
Your input is vitally important! This public meeting will give you an opportunity to tell the facilitators what you would like to see included in the new state plan for independent living - things that are important to you such as transportation, health care, personal assistance, and housing.
MTSTCIL will be providing transportation at no charge to the public meeting that will be held on September 20, 2006 at the WVDRS complex in Institute, WV from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Please call 304-525-3324 today to register to attend this important public hearing.
The meetings are open and accessible to the public. Requests for a sign language interpreter, alternate formats, or other accommodation needed to participate in the meetings must be made one week prior to the meeting. Call West Virginia SILC at 304-766-4843 or 1-800-642-8207 ext. 4624.
