2010 Disability Caucus - Chairman's Award

It has become a tradition that the State Independent Living Center (SILC) chairperson has the discretion to present an award to recognize an individual whose efforts have greatly contributed to the mission and goals of the SILC. Jack Mitchell, the current chairperson, very much wanted to continue this tradition and had no difficulty selecting the person he wanted to honor with this award.

Cindy SpinksThe recipient of this year's Chairman's Award is a person who has become a very valuable SILC member, who has learned so much and has grown to be a leader. This year's honoree has been on the SILC for several years and has served in several leadership positions, including SILC Chairperson. She always does her best, is always prepared, asks questions and is interested in all the SILC activities and responsibilities. She seeks out ways to become more involved in the disability community. Her curiosity, passion, and sense of justice make her a strong advocate for herself and for others with disabilities. She has grown to be a strong leader for the SILC and for the other groups with which she has become involved.

The 2010 Chairman's Award was presented to Cindy Spinks.
