Winner of the Creative Expressions Contest (ADA) Celebration - 2005

Merilyn Sleet, a Mountain State Centers for Independent Living board member won the Creative Expressions Contest that was held in conjunction with the 15th Anniversary Celebration of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The contest was divided between youth and adults with disabilities to express through poetry, narrative, or art mediums What the ADA Means to Me.

Painting and cover page description: Merilyn painted a picture of eagles soaring in a blue sky over trees. The painting was printed on the cover page of the booklet. The top of the cover page reads "Celebrating 15 years of Improved Independence Through the ADA, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., July 26, 2005, Charleston, WV." Her painting is on the center of the cover page and an accompanying poem, I Can Soar Like an Eagle Over All Obstacles and Barriers to Live a Free and Equal Life, is printed under the painting with her signature.
