Newsletter

The Caregiver is our quarterly newsletter. It is appropriate for both caregivers and health care professionals. It contains information about our Chapter as well as helpful as well as articles on caregiving issues and the latest research. You may receive this publication by calling any of our offices or via the Web site.

Educational materials/Helpline packets

We provide packets of educational and informational materials to individuals and families who request them. Each packet may be tailored to meet the needs of the individual or the situation.

Lending Libraries

Each office has a lending library of books and videos on all aspects of Alzheimer's disease. They are available for loan on a first-come, first-served basis.

Lunch and Learn

We offer a series of 45-minute modules that can be presented in the workplace over lunch, are designed to educate employees who are, or may become, involved in the care of someone with Alzheimer's or a related dementia. Topics include: Understanding Alzheimer's disease; Home Safety; How to Assist with Tasks of Daily Living; Recognizing Caregiver Stress; and, Identifying Resources in the Local Community.

Expos/health fairs

The West Virginia Chapter often participates in health fairs and expos throughout the year.

Partnering with Your Doctor Workshop

This new workshop provides a guide for persons with memory loss and their families and caregivers, empowering them to work with their doctors to ensure that their loved ones receive the best possible care and to make caregivers better advocates on their loves ones' behalf.

Professional Trainings

We provide training to professionals as well as family caregivers, on a variety of topics related to Alzheimer's disease. We also provide the Hands on Dementia Experience (HODE). In this exercise participants experience a few moments of the challenges many elderly may face daily. You will gain insight into the world or dementia and change your perspective about those struggling with the illness. There is a fee for these trainings.
