Ms. Bea
Age: 82
Project: Wheelchair Ramp
Total Project Cost: $940.00
Ms. Bea lives in Boone County with her daughter. She contacted our center in July 2004 requesting assistance with independent living services. Ms. Bea reported she had arthritis, heart failure, diabetes and used a wheelchair for mobility. She was in need of a ramp to increase her mobility and access to her community.
Through the Community Living Services Program Appalachian Center for Independent Living was able to build a ramp in May 2005. Ms. Bea was very happy with her ramp and said it had certainly increased her independence.
Mr. B
Age: 67
Project: Assistive Technology
Estimated Project Cost: $1,000.00
Mr. B lived in Kanawha County and was referred to our center by West Virginia Central Aging in November 2004. Mr. B had significant orthopedic problems and had much difficulty getting up and down from a seated position. Due to a lack of funds in the Community Living Services Program Mr. B was placed on our waiting list for a lift Chair.
Unfortunately, Mr. B recently passed away while waiting on funding to become available to receive independent living services.
