Jackson County Success Story

Mr. W
Jackson County
Age: 77
Project Cost: Saved $82,350

Mr. W. leaving his home using ramp.

Mr. W has severe arthritis. With the aid of a walker, Mr. W's was able to get around and take care of his daily living needs and getting to his doctor's appointments with the assistance of his wife. Due to the steps leading to the door of their home, the only time outside assistance was required was to help Mr. W when he was leaving or returning home.

When Mr. W's wife died unexpectedly, he was at risk of being placed in a nursing home and losing his independence and ability to take care of himself. Mr. W. contacted ACIL in to request a ramp be installed so that he could continue living in his own home. ACIL installed the ramp at a cost of $2,050. Mr. W was very appreciative and thankful he could remain in his own home.

Note: The cost to the taxpayer for a person to live for one year in a nursing home currently averages $80,300 per year. The investment of a ramp for Mr. W. saved the taxpayers $82,350 this year alone.
