Speak out on Medicaid Waiver Changes

The WV Department of Health and Human Resources (WVDHHR) is making changes to the Medicaid Waiver manual. A public meeting has been scheduled for July 19, 2006, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bureau of Senior Services located on the third floor of the Charleston Town Center Mall in Charleston, WV.

Raise your voice to SAVE your services!!

This may be your only opportunity to voice your concerns over proposed changes to the Waiver manual. The proposed changes will leave many people with disabilities across our state without services, with no other options than going to a nursing home or another state run facility. Some of the drastic changes the WVDHHR is proposing include:

The eligibility criteria includes the strictest definition in the United States (below three standard deviations from the mean) that will make many people lose Waiver services.
A person with a diagnosis of Mental Illness and Developmental Disability may lose eligibility.
Major restrictions on travel (TRIP Tickets) have been implemented.
A thirty-three (33) percent decrease in community residential habilitation hours.

This will be a chance to let WVDHHR and the media know that individuals, parents, advocates and professionals should be participating in the process of designing systems that affect everyone.
