After a Fire

Visit the USFA Web site After a Fire for recommendations concerning first steps, property loss and recovery.

Particularly helpful to getting back on your feet after a fire is The First 24 Hours - Securing Yourself and The Site.

Emergency Preparedness

When preparing your home escape plan you should also consider being prepared for after a fire.

Keep Important Papers in a Safe Place

Think about what you would need if you were unable to get back into your home. Make a list of all the documents and contact information.

For instance, make copies of your identification, passport and driver's license; gather the originals of your birth certificate, insurance policy and mortgage; and, create a list of contact numbers, medications and your doctors.

Keep these documents in a safe and accessible place, such as a deposit box at your bank.
