In 1992, MTSTCIL created the Foundation for Independent Living as the fund raising arm of the center. This allows for more flexibility in raising money to support the centers' activities, since the Foundation is not funded with Federal funds.
The Foundation has since purchased the building at 821 Fourth Avenue in Huntington, WV, which houses the MTSTCIL corporate offices. The Foundation has been involved in a capital campaign to raise money for the renovations of the building. This is still an on-going project, with renovations being completed as funds are raised.
The Foundation also operates FIL (Foundation for Independent Living) Bingo on Wednesday and Friday nights in Huntington to raise funds for the building renovations, as well as funds to support staff salaries and programs at the centers. Money raised during the past four years has also gone to purchase a new accessible van for both the Huntington and Beckley offices, as well as provide much needed repairs to the Beckley office. For details on the bingo games and times, call 304-525-6552.

The Freedom Fund Volunteer Task Force of MTSTCIL holds semi-annual rummage sales to raise money for the Freedom Fund. This fund provides limited financial support to persons with disabilities wishing to leave or prevent them from going into an institutional setting and to promote the independent living philosophy by offering guidance and support to persons with disabilities in maintaining themselves in their homes and communities providing funds are available.
The Freedom Fund Task Force always welcomes donations for the rummage sale. For information on how to donate, call 304-525-3324.
The Foundation accepts donations on behalf of MTSTCIL. Both MTSTCIL and the Foundation are 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations, registered with the West Virginia Secretary of State's Office. All donations are tax deductible.
