Mountain State Centers for Independent Living (MTSTCIL) is a community-based organization providing advocacy, networking, and resources to people with disabilities and their families. The centers are a place where people with disabilities are free to meet, share, learn and plan lives of greater independence and self reliance.
In response to the bombings at the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013, Mountain State Centers for Independent Living in West Virginia is proud to announce the Marathon Victims Fund. The Marathon Victims Fund will provide support to the Boston area Centers for Independent Living in order that they may provide services to those individuals who have acquired a disability due to the explosions at the Boston Marathon.
Ten percent (10%) of the proceeds from the Walk for Independence 2013 held on Saturday, July 20, will be donated to the Marathon Victims Fund. We are challenging all other groups who are having walk/runs to also donate a portion of their proceeds to the Marathon Victims Fund to help support the runners, their friends and supporters in Boston who were injured on April 15.
Advocacy is the core of our organization. We believe that by focusing on advocacy and teaching people with disabilities self-advocacy skills, our vision and mission can be achieved. Visit the Advocacy in Action section.
By raising the community's level of awareness about disabilities, our centers have the unique distinction of being both a resource for individuals and an advocacy organization in the community.
