Mountain State Centers for Independent Living (MTSTCIL) has been able to provide this Web site through a grant from the West Virginia Statewide Independent Living Council. The purpose of the grant is to reach disabled West Virginians in areas that are not currently served by a center for independent living.
One element of the grant is to find ways to get computers into the homes of people with disabilities. By providing independent living services and training on-line, people with disabilities will have access to information not previously available to them. By having access to the Internet, people will have the opportunity to explore an even broader range of information.
MTSTCIL is soliciting donations of computers as well as money to purchase new computers to provide to disabled West Virginians. We are contacting corporations, agencies, community organizations, individuals, as well as readers of this Web site to assist in the computer recycling project.
People interested in donating computers should use the following minimum guidelines. All computers must be Internet capable, preferably including a modem, Pentium II with at least 64 megs of RAM. Please call the corporate office of MTSTCIL to arrange for delivery of donation.
People interested in donating money towards the purchase of new computers can make checks payable to the Foundation for Independent Living (the fund raising arm of MTSTCIL). Both MTSTCIL and the Foundation are 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations, registered with the West Virginia Secretary of State's Office. All donations, (money and property) are tax deductible.
