The Independent Living Skills Development Program is designed to help you make the most of your abilities and increase your self-reliance and self-confidence. This is done by teaching you how to take control of your own life. You may not be able to perform every daily task that you want completed, but you will learn, through interdependence, how to ensure that each task is completed the way you want it to be.

By providing you with training, resources, and information on adaptive equipment, we can help you take control of your life. Training classes and workshops are developed based on the interests and needs of the people participating in the program. The training topics available will change, as our consumers' needs change.

These skills can be taught at the center in a classroom or workshop setting or in the community. In some cases, skills training is provided in your home to help you learn how to do new tasks in a familiar setting.
This learning process can also help you develop leisure options in the community. A Planning and Organizing class may work with a Bus Riding class to plan and attend an event in the community. Communication Skills and Time Management are put to use every time a consumer goes bowling, fishing, or to a movie with other center consumers or friends. MTSTCIL believes that leisure activities can enrich your life and provides you with support to find activities in the community.
Mountain State Centers for Independent Living (MTSTCIL) is a resource for people with disabilities who are looking to share their interests and skills with others in the community.
