Outdoor Electric
You need to be just as careful when using electricity outdoors as you do when using it indoors. Below are some things to consider.
- Never use electric-powered mowers and other tools in the rain, on wet grass, or in wet conditions.
- Inspect power tools and electric lawn mowers before each use for frayed power cords or broken plugs. If damaged, stop using them immediately and repair or replace them. Unplug them when they aren't in use.
- Only use lights, appliances, and extension cords that have been labeled for outdoor use.
- Stay inside during electrical storms (lightening and/or thunder) and away from windows. If you are caught outside, find a low place (a valley or dip in the ground) and stay close to the ground. Don't stand under trees, utility poles, or other tall objects that may attract lightening.
- Don't use electrical appliances during electrical storms. This includes telephones, televisions, computers, and radios.
- Avoid power and phone lines. Don't do outdoor work around power or phone lines. Be especially careful when using metal ladders, as they can conduct electricity. If you notice a downed phone or power line, don't go near it - call the utility company immediately to report the danger and warn others in your neighborhood.
