Finding work can be a full time job! But having strong job search and interview skills can make your search for employment easier and more successful.
It is important to remember when looking for a job that no one owes you a job. Employers want highly motivated employees, which means you will probably have to "sell" yourself (convince employers that you could be a worthwhile employee) in the course of your job search and interviews.
Conducting a job search can involve using many different resources to find potential places of employment. Job openings can be found by various methods. Some methods include:
- Networking (letting people know you are looking for a position and attending functions where you might meet potential employers or make connections)
- Contacting companies and potential employers directly
- Working with placement agencies, such as job services, private employment agencies, college or school placement offices, or veteran's placement centers
- Contacting local libraries, community organizations, schools and churches about employment opportunities
- Responding to advertisements in newspapers, newsletters, and magazines
