Push America - Journey of Hope in Beckley, WV 2005

On August 5, 2005, the Push America's Trans America Journey of Hope bicyclists arrived by police and fire escort to the Beckley office of MTSTCIL. They were met by MTSTCIL staff and consumers and members from the general public. After talking to the media and meeting with the staff, consumers and general public, and having a few refreshments the cyclists went to Mountain State University to rest.

Later in the evening, MTSTCIL hosted dinner for the group at MTSTCIL. They feasted on lasagna, salad, rolls, fruit salad, cheese cake and cold drinks. Several of the cyclists said the lasagna was a great choice of food because of the carbohydrates.

Delegate Sumner talking with cyclistsAfter dinner and a brief presentation about Push America's Journey of Hope, all the cyclists introduced themselves, telling where they were from and what college or university they attended. MTSTCIL staff, consumers, board members, volunteers, legislators and members of the general public introduced themselves.

After dinner the cyclists, staff and consumers went to Leisure Lanes to bowl. Before leaving the bowling alley, Nick Cloud gathered everyone together to get a group photo. Also, Nick Cloud presented Kevin Maynus with a Push America t-shirt and made him an honorary member of the team as thanks for organizing and coordinating their visit to Beckley. Kevin accepted the t-shirt, but told Nick that Cindy Hungate, Secretary in the Beckley Office, completed the majority of the organizing and coordination of the day's events and the t-shirt should go to her. Since Cindy was unavailable, Kevin presented the t-shirt to her the next morning in the Beckley Office.
