Check in started with - a downpour! But the rain did not scare off the over 160 people who walked. Even the rain stopped when it was time to start walking.

Mayor Wolfe

On behalf of the Mayor of Huntington, Charles Holley read a proclamation declaring July 25, 2009 as "Walk for Independence Day" and encouraged all city business to support the Walk.

Hot and Hydrated

waterbottleTo keep us cool and hydrated - always remember to drink plenty of water when exercising on these hot days - our own Kevin Maynus, from the Beckley Mountain State Centers for Independent Living office, provided ten cases of water with the Walk logo printed on the bottles. Thanks Kevin!

Our Teams

We had over 14 teams registered. Take a minute to meet the teams. Several of our old friends returned to walk again, including Dream Catchers and ABLE / CAC. Special welcome to our strategic partner's team the Literacy Leaders Book It! Also a special welcome to Volunteer West Virginia.

It's official. The 2010 Walk for Independence will be held at Ritter Park on Saturday, July 17, 2010. Mark your calendars now and plan to walk with us next year. See you then!
